just make sure yuou've got your cables in the right ports. Then check the recording preferences. I actually prefer using Nero Wave Editor to SoundForge because you can adjust to recording volume within the software.

am not so sure about nero but if its anything like your generic recording app then it listens to the port currently selected in volume control, recording properities. Go to the volume control, go options and properities and select recording. Make sure line in is select. If all thats ok then all I can suggest is using a different app. Try Audacity. Its free for starters and has loads of nice features.

heres a stupid one, open volume control and make sure that line in is not muted in the playback part. Now play something from the source and make sure you can hear it through the pc speakers. If you can't then its a problem in the connection between source and the pc. If you can then i'm lost once again.

Edit

Just found nero installed on this machine with the wav editor. It deffo does just look at the recording port selected in volume control as you can only select the device and not the port. All I can suggest is to check the connections.

Edit Edit

JUST REMEMBERED

I had a problem like this a while ago. It happened when I installed new drivers for the soundcard. The line in in the volume control wasn't actually the line in on the card anymore. It had changed to aux in. Check for that and try to change the recording to that.

Does anyone know of a freeware converter that will take a file from MP3 format to WAV? If there is no freeware, is there a reasonably priced software?
